- Primarily responsible for performing staff relations, recruiting, and administering Canyon Ranch policies, procedures, and HR programs
- Supervised by the Director of Human Resoures.
- Responsibilities
- Essential Duties
- Advises and counsels staff and management on staff relation matters including:
- Sharing and interpreting, when necessary, the guidelines of Canyon Ranch policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws.
- Ensuring that coaching and disciplinary action is administered appropriately and fairly
- Monitoring performance reviews and salary adjustments to ensure they are done equitably and within guidelines
- Reviewing and participating in terminations to ensure action is appropriate and documentation supports termination
- Performing unbiased investigations and providing appropriate resolution to claims of harassment, discrimination, or any other claim of unfair treatment or in response to any staff member concern.
- Performs various recruiting activities to fill open positions including:
- Working with hiring managers and Employment Manager to develop or update job descriptions, to establish appropriate screening and interviewing methods, and to determine best recruiting and advertising strategies
- Working with Benefits and Compensation Manager to ensure compensation is competitive with current market.
- Screening applications and interviewing candidates
- Coordinating and conducting employment verification and reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings and physicals.
- Coordinating and making job offers
- Arranges for Temporary Service help as needed
- Conducts New Hire Orientation on rotating basis
- Creates and maintains proactive programs to ensure staff members views, problems, issues, concerns, etc. are heard and addressed as needed
- Administers Lifeline Program and processes requests
- Handles unemployment claims, including pulling together appropriate documentation, working with Unemployment Representatives in putting cases together, coordinating witnesses and testimony, and participating in hearings.
- Conducts exit interviews and sets up and generates reports on results, trends, and other information
- Maintains accurate documentation and records for all matters handled
- Adheres to and exemplifies Canyon Ranch standards for guest service
- Maintains positive working relationships with all Canyon Ranch staff members and any external customer that comes into contact with the HR Department or Canyon Ranch.
- Maintains consistent attendance and adheres to schedules as assigned
- Additional Duties
- Serves as back up to Benefits and Compensation Manager, and maintains working knowledge of Canyon Ranch benefits and compensation programs.
- Makes recommendations for new programs, policies, training, and development opportunities for management and other staff.
- Conducts training sessions and facilitates meetings as needed
- Undertakes and performs special projects and assignments as assigned
- Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or equivalent education and/or experience
- PHR or equivalent HR certification preferred
- Experience
- Three or more years of HR Generalist experience, including recruiting experience. Bilingual (Spanish/English) experience strongly preferred
- Previous training and/or public speaking experience preferred
- One or more years experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with entire Microsoft Office package preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of federal and state labor laws and common HR practices and procedures
- Excellent customer service and positive interpersonal skills, including ability to facilitate and mediate sensitive and/or confrontational matters and to provide coaching and counseling in a productive and effective manner
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all levels of Canyon Ranch staff, vendors, guests, and government agencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong writing and editing abilities and outstanding presentation skills, including ability to professionally speak in public and in front of groups
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, and proficiency or the ability to learn quickly with little assistance other software packages
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Good judgement skills and the ability to handle and maintain confidential information
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities strongly preferred
